Ordinary World

The ordinary world is so, well, ordinary. What's the fun in plain? Nobody wants to be bland. People are born with a need to stand out. To be different. So why do we shun that? Society encourages us to become ordinary. Standard. Children are the most creative people on this planet, yet we try to smother that. Schools teach them that everything comes down to what's right, and what's wrong. We discourage what's different. Color inside the lines. Stay within our set bounds. No Johnny, the sky is not purple. Why not? Let the kids create what they feel. It's not until it's too late that we start to encourage creativity. We've instilled in them that they have to stay within these set rules, and you expect them to just suddenly break free of that? People say "I wish I was creative enough to draw/design/create that." You once were. Children have amazing imaginations, and that's where it comes from. We can't formulate art. Not everything comes down to right or wrong. Sometimes wrong IS right. Still, we crush each generation's sense of wonder. Just look at some of the greatest painters out there. None of them followed the rules. They listened to their imaginations and the stories their hearts were telling them, and created the pieces that show up in our textbooks, museum walls, and in our homes. In the words of Duran Duran, what has happened to it all? Crazy, some are saying. Where is the life I recognize? Gone away.
